To stop viruses from entering your network through the messaging system, simply select the appropriate server that the scanner resides on. Next, open the sub-folders until you reach Scanning Configuration, then click on Antivirus.

NOTE: As you make changes to your configuration, the disk icon Image:SaveButton.gif in the upper right corner of the page will become active and the words SAVE CHANGES will appear. Do not forget to click the icon to save your changes before moving to another page, or your changes will be lost.

Check the box to the virus scan event system, and check the box to block the message. If you wish to quarantine the message, or notify the sender, recipient, or administrator, turn on the appropriate service.

TIP: If you chose "Stop Viruses" when you installed your scanner, this section will already be configured for you. In addition, Fingerprinting and Attachment Filename filtering will also be activated and configured.

Services

Image:Attachment_Blocking_3.jpg Block - Do not allow this message to pass through.

Image:Attachment_Blocking_4.jpg Notify Sender - Send an e-mail to the sender of the message. The specific contents of the e-mail are based upon a template configured in Configuring Notification Options

Image:Attachment_Blocking_5.jpg Notify Recipient - Send an e-mail to recipient of the message. (Usually, this service is used in conjunction with a Block). The specific contents of the e-mail are based upon a template configured in Configuring Notification Options

Image:Attachment_Blocking_6.jpg Notify Administrator - Send an e-mail to the administrator about the message. The specific contents of the e-mail are based upon a template configured in Configuring Notification Options

Image:Attachment_Blocking_8.jpg Quarantine - Store the message in the GWAVA Quarantine Management System (QMS). Users with accounts in the QMS will be able to access these messages, and possibly release or forward them, depending on the configured rights. These messages will also be subject to being compiled into an digest notification sent to users, if the QMS administrator has turned this function on.

As you click on the checkboxes for the services, you'll notice they toggle between checked and unchecked and locked and unlocked. The Antivirus page supports Multistate Services by default, and it is particularly useful to consider locking the Quarantine service in the unchecked state.

Exceptions

While it is rare that you would want to have exceptions to the virus scanning event, it is possible to create them. See Managing exceptions for more information.

Antivirus Updates

For the built-in Kaspersky AV engine, these are performed automatically every hour.
