Environment
GWAVA 4 on Netware or Linux
Situation
Trying to bypass GWAVA How do I take GWAVA out of the picture, to allow email through without GWAVA scanning it?
Resolution
There are a couple of different ways you can take GWAVA out of the picture.
If using a GWIA scanner:
1) You can disable inbound or outbound scanning. In GWAVA management console | server/scanner management | server | manage scanners | scannername | configure GWIA settings | Mail interface settings
2) If you would like to make it so that mail skips the directory that GWAVA is scanning (wpgate/gwia/3rd/receive), you can rem out the line in the gwia.cfg that routes the mail here. Example of line in gwia.cfg:If using an MTA scanner:
/smtphome-vol1:/domain/wpgate/gwia/3rd
Rem out this line using a ; then exit the GWIA and start it backup. The default location for the gwia.cfg is in sys:/system on Netware and opt/novell/groupwise/agents/share on Linux.
note: Don't forget to unrem this line and restart the GWIA when you want GWAVA to scan messages again.
If the gwia.cfg does not have this line in it, it may be set up in console one instead. Look at the GWIA properties in ConsoleOne | Server Directories | Advanced. You can remove this path and restart the GWIA after saving the changes.
1) You can bypass scanning. In GWAVA management console | server/scanner management | server | manage scanners | scannername | configure MTA settings | Mail Interface settings | Enable Bypass mode
2) You can rem out the MTA scanner. You can unload GWAVA at this point, but it isn't necessary.
a) Edit the MTA startup file and rem out the 7 lines that are after 'End of file' for example:
/vscan-EXCLUDE
/vstype-MESSAGE
/vsnamevalue-MTASieve
/vsthread-50
/vsdomain-DUMMY
/vsport-7108
/vsaction-DISCARD
The MTA start up file is located by default in sys:/system on Netware and opt/novell/groupwise/agents/share on Linux.
Exit the MTA and restart it after making this change.
