Environment

Retain 3.x/4.x
Exchange
Office 365

Situation

I'm getting Autodiscover errors in my RetainWorker logs that say the endpoint cannot be found.  How can I test my O365 system's connectivity?

Resolution

Microsoft provides a connectivity test through a website of theirs.  The only caveat is that, if testing Exchange onsite, then your firewall has to allow the connectivity test to run.

To access the web utility, go to https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com.  Click on any image in this article to to see a larger view of it.

Office 365
For Office 365, select the "Office 365" tab and click on Next.
1.  Select Outlook Autodiscover under "Microsoft Outlook Connectivity Tests".

2.   Complete the fields and click on "Perform Test".
  • For the Email address field, type in the email address of the mailbox access you are testing.
  • For Microsoft Account field, enter the UPN (user principal name) of the impersonation account you are using to access the mailboxes.
  • The Password is for the impersonation account, not the mailbox you are trying to access.
  • Check both boxes ("Ignore Trust for SSL" and "I understand...").

Exchange
This test will require access through your firewall.

For Exchange on premise, select the "Exchange Server" tab:
1.  Select Outlook Autodiscover under "Microsoft Outlook Connectivity Tests" and click on Next.

If all tests fail that usually means that MS did not enable autodiscover on your O365 domain (you need to call MS to have them activate it), or that you need to enable autodiscover on your On-Premise system as stated in the documentation.

If at least one of the tests succeeds, you can use the successful site as the Active Directory Site in Retain Server Console|Worker|<particular worker>|Module specific tab.
