Creating Reload Tape Backup TAR Files on Windows and NetWare

Environment

Reload (all versions)

Situation

When the backup in the TAR file was restored to the Reload server and the Access Mode POA was loaded against that backup, it would fail to load. The tape backup advanced option in Reload, "Build TAR File Before Moving to TAR Path" was disabled.  This causes Reload to create the TAR file on the destination server/drive.  The destination server was Windows.  Reload creates "symbolic links" in the backup structure.  Windows and Netware do not recognize symbolic links, which causes the links to be lost when the TAR is built.

Resolution

If the TAR destination is on a Windows or NetWare server, the TAR must be built locally on the Reload server before being moved to the TAR location.

Enable the tape backup advanced setting, "Build TAR File Before Moving to TAR Path".
