Running a GWAVA 4 SMTP Scanner and GWIA on the Same Server |

Applies To:
GWAVA 4 SMTP Scanner Build 117 and above Problem: I am running GWAVA 4 on the same server that my GWIA is on. How can I setup an SMTP scanner so there is no port conflict? Solution: Generally, GWIA is the process that accepts your SMTP traffic over port 25. However, when using a GWAVA 4 SMTP scanner, you want that traffic to go to the scanner first, and then be passed on to the GWIA. If both processes are running on the same server, then there will be a port conflict. In order to prevent a port conflict between the two processes, the port that GWIA listens on for SMTP traffic must be changed. Modifying the SMTP port in the GWIA configuration is simple to do. Open ConsoleOne and locate your GWIA, then open its properties. Go to GroupWise | Network Address. Change the SMTP port from 25 to an unused port. ![]() This setting can also be changed in the gwia.cfg file by adding the switch: /smtpport-portnumber. For example, /smtpport-26. Normally, the SMTP scanner will relay mail to port 25 on the recipient server. Therefore, you need to indicate the port that GWIA is now listening on in your SMTP scanner configuration. This is easily done by adding the port number to the end of the IP address. For example: 127.0.0.1:26 or 10.1.1.10:26. To add the port number go to Server/Scanner Management | [your server] | Server Management | Configure server. Add the port number to the Mail relay agent SMTP Server. The port number can also be added to any other Additional internet domains that aren’t using the standard SMTP port. ![]() |
